Shingle and metal roofs built for this coast

A roof on this coast works harder than a roof almost anywhere else. Summer heat. Daily downpours. Salt in the air. And the real question every June: how's it going to do in a storm?

TradeWinds Construction installs architectural shingle roofs and standing seam metal roofs from Melbourne down to Vero Beach. We'll be straight with you about the tradeoff. Shingles cost less up front. Metal costs more, typically outlasts two shingle roofs, and shrugs off wind that lifts shingle tabs.

Either way the job gets done complete. Old material torn off. Decking inspected and renailed where it needs it. Modern underlayment. Proper flashing at every wall and penetration. And a clean site when we leave, swept with a magnet so your driveway doesn't eat a tire.

We know these houses

Drive the streets of Micco, Barefoot Bay, and beachside Melbourne and you can watch the shift to metal, roofline by roofline. Closer to the ocean, salt air is rough on exposed fasteners, so we talk honestly about panel and fastener choices for beachside homes.

Questions we hear

Questions about shingle & metal roofing

Metal or shingle, which should I choose?

Shingle wins on up front cost and it's the right call for plenty of budgets and timelines. Metal wins on lifespan, wind performance, and looks on a Florida house. We'll price both on your actual roof so you're comparing real numbers instead of a sales pitch.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most single family homes get torn off and dried in within a day or two, and the full job commonly wraps inside a week, weather permitting. Metal takes a bit longer than shingle because of the panel work.

Do you inspect the wood under the old roof?

Always. Tear off is the only honest look at your decking. We replace rotten sheets, renail to current standards, and photograph what we find so you can see exactly what you paid for.
