Rooms your guests will never find
Some of the best work we've ever done is work we can't show you. TradeWinds Construction designs and builds concealed rooms. Gun rooms, vault rooms, safe rooms, and private storage, hidden behind doors that look like part of the house.
A bookcase that swings on hidden hardware. A wainscot panel that releases with a push. A mirror, a pantry wall, a closet back. The craft is in the concealment. Reveals, weight, and hardware tuned so the door sits flush, swings true, and blends into the room around it.
Behind the door, we build the room to your purpose. Racking and lighting for a firearms collection. Reinforced walls and a vault door for valuables. Or a hardened interior room the family can get to fast when a storm is coming. Every one of these projects is planned quietly, one on one.
Why you see so little of this work
This work is private by nature. Most of it never gets published, and we don't name the homes it's in. The example below is shown with the permission of the client whose home it is. Others we can walk you through in person.
A concealed mantel compartment

Stacked stone feature wall, solid wood mantel, TV above. The mantel releases to open a concealed compartment sized for a long gun and ready ammunition, then closes flush and reads as ordinary trim. The same principle scales up to a full room behind a bookcase, a panel wall, or a closet back.
What we handle
- Concealed doors, in bookcase, panel, mirror, and cabinet styles
- Gun rooms with racking, dehumidification, and lighting
- Vault rooms with reinforced framing and vault style doors
- Interior hardened rooms for storm shelter and secure storage
- Discreet scheduling and a small, consistent crew
We know these houses
Florida homes almost never have basements, so concealed rooms here get built into the floor plan. A captured corner of the garage. A bedroom shortened by a few feet. A closet deepened into the room behind it. We find the space in your existing layout, or design it into an addition.

Questions about secret rooms, gun rooms & hidden vaults
How hidden is a hidden door, really?
Done right, it reads as ordinary trim, shelving, or paneling, and most visitors walk straight past it. We tune the reveals and hardware so nothing about it asks for a second look. We won't call any door impossible to find, though. Honesty is part of the build.
Can a secret room double as a storm room?
Yes, and on this coast that's a popular combination. Interior location, reinforced framing, and a solid door make a concealed room a practical place to ride out a hurricane's worst hours, and to stage what matters before a storm.
Who will know about the project?
As few people as you want. We keep a small crew on these builds, stage materials discreetly, and treat the location and details of the room as your private business. Before, during, and after the job.
